Rebecca struck gold at 2008 WSC Championships, smashing Commonwealth Record & European Recrod, but just missing World Record. She also swam anchor leg for 4x200m free tm finishing 0.06 sec behind NED (Netherlands).
Her biggest career disappointment - missing ENG selection for 06 Commonwealth Games. Began swimming aged 4 & competing aged 10.
Superstition – always wears a new racing costume for each big comp.
Kirsty Balfour 100m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke
Beijing 2008 will be Kirsty Balfour’s second Olympic Games after she was officially selected as a member of Team GB on 27th February 2008. At the Athens 2004 Olympics Balfour finished tenth in the 200m breaststroke competition and sixth as part of Team GB’s 4x100m medley relay team.
The 200m breaststroke has consistently been Balfour’s strongest event and she has claimed an impressive list of medals in the discipline. This includes silver at the 2007 World Championships, silver in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and gold in the 2005 European Championships.
Julia Beckett 4x100m Freestyle Relay
GB debut in 2002 and makes Olympic debut in Beijing. Says Commenwealth Games relay silver is her biggest achievement.
Ellen Gandy 200m Butterfly
First selected for GB in 03, makes her OG debut in Beijing. Won 5 golds at 05 EYO. Biggest passion is art.
Francesca Halsall 100m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x200m Freestyle Relay, 50m Freestyle
Won four medals at 2008 World Short Course Championships in Manchester, including 4x100m freestyle bronze on her 18th birthday. Set 100m freestyle British Record. Also won 2 gold at 08 BCh. 1st selected for GB in 03. Makes Olympic Games debut in Beijing.
Was on shortlist for 05 BBC Young Sports Personality of Yr with winner Henry Aikines-Aryeetey & Theo Walcott.
Kate Haywood 100m Breaststroke
Won joint silver medal with Sarah Katoulis (AUS) in 50m breast at 2008 World Short Course Championships. Sporting hero is Sharron Davies. Great grandfather played for Everton FC & ENG.
